Story

A song about CT and commuting for a living.

Lyrics

Take the train every morning Leave the house at five, get in at 8:09 Grab a coffee, fold the paper Take another sip, read one more line It's always a rush in the morning and no-one ever talks Caught in the current on the sidewalk chorus Yes I'm livin' in the belly of the beast I've always followed the signs Yes I'm livin' in the belly of the beast It's such a good friend of mine Always thought of leaving the city But I come back here every day Dreamt of owning my own business Funny how dreams slip away Lost control of my life so many years ago This is all that I know A watch a handshake and a pension Not much to show for forty years But I made choices I could live with Lord knows I'll not shed any tears

Lyrics

I see the fire in the sky in the morning light I see the fire in the sky when I lay down at night The fire's burning bright both day and night Sometimes I think I'll never see the rain chorus I'm just waiting for the cool cool rain I feel the heat and I see the flames I'm just waiting for the cool cool rain And I'll be waiting a long long time I remember the first time I saw the view from here My eyes were open wide, everything was so clear All the lakes and stream they were turning into steam It was so hot I had to close my eyes chorus Well I feel that rain start to fall Yeah I feel the rain start to fall It's falling from the skys soothing my eyes But it feels like it's gonna rain forever It's been raining now for over a year There's not a flame in sight but the flood is near I search for higher ground, but there's none of it around the fire's out and the rain keeps comin down I'm just waitn' for the heat of the flame i'm chilled to the bone I want no more rainI'm just waitin' for the heat of the flame And I'll ne waitin a long long time And the rain it keeps on pourin' down

Story

A lesson I am still working on!

Lyrics

It's so close that you can taste it And you want it so bad Like a kid with no money in a candy store window Thinkin' 'bout all the things you might have had Wo-oh, let it go People come and go through life Even friends disapear without a trace I know you feel so bad about it 'Cause there's feelings there that you just can't face Wo-oh, let it go Time to let the sunshine in Take a good look at the shape you're in Wo-oh, I think you know, I think you know Time to look ahead, time to make up a brand new bed Wo-oh, I think you know, time to let it go I know you're thinkin' 'bout the past And all the stupid things you have done Don't you think you should forgive yourself at last 'Cause you don't want to live your life on the run Wo-oh, let it go Time goes by so fast Head on like a careening train Don't you think it's time to leave the past to the past Otherwise you'll live with too much pain Wo-oh, let it go

Story

The first real song I wrote about a school classmate.

Lyrics

Troubles have their outcry, but in you they've taken their toll One day you're in heaven, and the next day on the floor Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart No one can help you, no one that is butyou It's so easy from the outside, so much easier to say than do Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Livin' on the edge makes it easy to fall off Playin' with the fate of your life Livin' on the edge makes it easy to fall off And no one wants to see you get hurt Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart It's been good to see you again, but it seems like years and years No one ever told me about your string of tears Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart Oh Diana, I can feel the pain in your heart

Lyrics

Another early morning, I just can't get out of bed

Sometimes I wish I drank coffee, but that stuff'll kill you dead

My guitar smells like cigarettes from the bar I played last night

And I'm trying to make some sense in the morning's bloodshot light

Yeah, Yeah...yeah yeah

Well I play in the evening and you work in the day

Every dream has a different path and every path has different ways

What is truth but what we know, what is ignorance but bliss

We're all caught up in the fairy tale, waitin' for the magic kiss

Yeah, yeah

Doors open, doors close

How the wheel will weave no‑one knows

The tide ebbs and the tide flows

In the dance of life, yeah yeah

In the dance of life

Dharma is a two edged sword, it can cut both ways

Is it worth the bold obsession, I think I dare not say

But it's been so long since I've been home

And I'm tired of these motels

Yeah every occupation has it's own special hell

Yeah yeah, ....yeah yeah

This whole mess was hardwired in , it's so tough to lose the load

That's why it took me all this time to find the open road

It's better late than never, at least that's what they say

But I'm tired of all these platitudes, so I'll  be on my way

Yeah yeah

Another early morning, I just can't get out of bed

Sometimes I wish I drank coffee, but that stuff'll kill you dead

My guitar smells like cigarettes from the bar I played last night

And I'm trying to make some sense in the morning's bloodshot light

Yeah, Yeah

Story

A song about my great, great Grandfather, who traveled from New Brunswick to Portland, Or by boat mid 1800's to try for a better life for his family. This was my first foray into a Celtic writing style.

Lyrics

Cradled here in this ship called the Sun Wind's blowin' strong, been gone so long from my family In St. John New Brunswick Our Captain Wallace is pleased with the ship The crew is well seasoned and the Sun is well fit For the Nor'Easter comin' Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas As I stand on the deck drenched by the spray My thoughts are not here, they’re so far away That I shed a tear, but hold back the others Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas Dark clouds are gathering 'round us And the wind's tearing at the sails And I may never see you again As I write this letter filled with hope and with fear We're blown 'round the Horn and Portland draws so near With the hope of reunion I am consumed by this price we must pay I draw strength from your love so far away While others dance at our arrival Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas Dark clouds are gathering 'round us And the wind's tearing at the sails And maybe I will see you again Maybe I will see you again

Story

I wrote Just One Minute and Four Finger Rag was the first finger picking song I learned from Sammy Remmington, probably in 4th or 5th grade.

Lyrics

Watch out for the gentle sex my papa said to me They're smarter than you think they are With powers you can't see I want to learn my lessons well But I need your help can't you tell You're my last chance for true romance Give me just one minute please Chorus Just one minute in your arms, is that too much to ask ust one minute in your arms, within your love to bask Can't you see what it means to me Just on minute could set me free You're my last chance for true romance Give me just one minute please Before they put me in the ground, I'd like a taste of love But could it be too much to ask of the angels up above My last chance is up to you, don't send me home to sing the blues I'm a desperate man, say yes you can Give me just one minute please Could it be I'll get my wish, only time can say But I can see that I'm on your mind when you look at me that way Don't think too much, don't you wait Jump right in, don't hesitate I'm a sinking boat, that's all she wrote Without just one minute please

Story

The thought was that even the worst of people can be turned around if infused with enough love. Sad to say, I'm not so sure anymore.

Lyrics

It feels so good to be out of the cold The fire's always burning so hot Some feel the warmth and they walk right in But no matter how they try, others cannot It's so easy in the scheme of things Just turn up the heat Sit right down in the fires flame No one gets burned in this hot seat chorus Even cold cold hearts, even the coldest hearts Yeah cold cold hearts, they can be warmed by love Teach your children, show your friends Just how good it can feel A look in the eye, a touch of a hand Nothing else feels so real But no matter what faith you trust in Or which banner you answer the call The door's always open so walk right in There's room enough for all chorus bridge Take off your shoes, kick up your heels Dance with the power of love Feel your heat and that of others too It's just what you've been dreamin' of

Story

Written while on the NJ TPK, remembering the Jersey Girls I use to know, and of course, driving alot.

Lyrics

I once knew a girl, a north Jersey girl Who taught me the meaning of Sunday drivin' I wanted her love, she just wanted to talk She spit out her words like she was barely survivin' She was supposed to marry a boy waiting at home When she told me this she started to cry We'd just stare straight ahead, and drive drive drive drive drive We'd just stare straight ahead, and drive drive drive drive drive The next Jersey girl and I made a deal In the hopes that we'd both get what we needed I was to give her my love ,she was to give me what she could But come to think of it, we never succeeded She came to visit with a woman lover friend In whose arms she said she felt alive I'd just stare straight ahead and drive drive drive drive drive I'd just stare straight ahead and drive drive drive drive drive Today I was drivin down the New Jersey Turnpike When in a flash I was struck by a powerful vision The two of them came searing into my mind With a heat that was something like nuclear fision If it wasn't flash fire I'd have never survived 'Cause ghosts from the past can burn you alive I just stare straight ahead and drive drive drive drive drive I just stare straight ahead and drive drive drive drive drive

Story

A song about coming home.

Lyrics

To darkness from light, day turns to night And the white lines they mesmerize The sun lays down it's head on it's firey red bed And the roadside changes disguise That's the time I always think of you And the smile that I'll soon see Won't you leave the door open for me Chorus No matter where I roam, I long for our home Won't you leave the door open for me Won't you leave the door open for me Every highway sign tells me I have arrived At another town that I'll just pass through But they're just dominos falling in a row In the wake that I make back to you As I cross thestate line I realize I'd forgotten my front door keys Won't you leave the door open for me chorus It's good to arrive as I pull in the drive And the porch light's a much welcomed sight I close up the carafter driving so far And take a deep breath of the night I know it's real late, I can't expect you to wait But is that your light that I see Won't you leave the door open for me
