  1. So Many Seas

From the recording So Many Seas

A song about my great, great Grandfather, who traveled from New Brunswick to Portland, Or by boat mid 1800's to try for a better life for his family. This was my first foray into a Celtic writing style.

Lyrics

Cradled here in this ship called the Sun
Wind's blowin' strong, been gone so long from my family
In St. John New Brunswick
Our Captain Wallace is pleased with the ship
The crew is well seasoned and the Sun is well fit
For the Nor'Easter comin'
Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas

As I stand on the deck drenched by the spray
My thoughts are not here, they’re so far away
That I shed a tear, but hold back the others
Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas

Dark clouds are gathering 'round us
And the wind's tearing at the sails
And I may never see you again

As I write this letter filled with hope and with fear
We're blown 'round the Horn and Portland draws so near
With the hope of reunion
I am consumed by this price we must pay
I draw strength from your love so far away
While others dance at our arrival
Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas
Oh the love of a father must sail so many seas

Dark clouds are gathering 'round us
And the wind's tearing at the sails
And maybe I will see you again
Maybe I will see you again
